I said “thank you” to you softly,

’Cause you couldn’t be here —

But I know you be here

layin’ impact set for decades.

I wish you could see it,

I know you can.

You gave us the future.

You told him it was possible,

You moved him to live better,

You made sure he had that fighting chance.

I thought that I would lose him —

You gave us time.

You asked him to educate me,

And I know the marks ain’t always good,

But he placed me in rooms

where art and literature feel like home —

Where writing is where I belong,

Where old classics are dear friends.

Maybe we connect that way.

My higher self is with you.

You told her to watch over me.

You trusted me with her love.

They carried my wounded soul to higher heights.

They taught me to be my own woman.

I wish, just once, we could all sit down for tea.

You saw into the future!

Maybe these are evolving into tears of joy.

Maybe,

it hurts because I’m human…

but deeper thoughts give me better wisdom.

No coincidence,

Just enlightened purpose.

It’s like the work you did prepared me for the journey to live,

prepared me for Buddhism,

for interfaith connection,

for continuing your journey,

for being myself —

not in mother-daughter competition.

So, again,

Thank you, Mom.
